In prison I found true freedom

In prison I found true freedom

When I came across this statement initially ( in reference to the movie Provoked) I was not convinced. However after seeing the movie I realized it was apt. And yet, I haven’t realized how apt until now.

For true freedom is freedom of spirit. If we are free, we do not value our freedom nor understand what it really means. And hence we slave under many undue influences, both good and bad. And since we are influenced we are not free.

And yet, if we are forced into bondage we tend to disassociate from the particular situation and hence find true freedom.

Paradoxical isnt it? We need bondage to actually feel free 🙂 Like one needs danger to lose fear of death. And hope of peace to go for war….

On a side note: In that movie, more than the husband of the victim, I hated the mother in law! For she seemed to have erred in many ways. but then, like the victim, she knew no other way of life…

  1. yeah you are right,
We need bondage to actually feel free…

same way we need Satan to remind us of God or darkness to remind us of light!!! 🙂
it is only when we experience the other side, so we realize it…. 🙂

  2. you saw the movie too?it got me really down:(
It was so horrific and so real…cant even imagine what the woman on whose story its based went through….

yes,one can never appreciate or even know the other side till one has experienced it..how do we know we are happy if we have never had a moment of sadness?or vice versa?

    ((hugs)):))

  5. So very true…true freedom is freedom of the spirit.
I’m glad the movie made more people aware of the plight of victims of domestic violence.

  7. but do you think one missed being bonded once they are free?..we are so used to the attachment, the freedom kind of looses its importance ..may be freedom has its importance only because of bondage

  8. Yes you are right … so right!

I loved this post, it touched a chord … I had never appreciated our freedom (and equality) – as women until the recent incidents of violence in Mangalore…

Sometimes it does take a fear of bondage or actual bondage to appreciate what we have … and now when one see what’s happening in Pakistan, with Taliban banning music and girls’ schools.. I appreciate our freedom and our Constitution even more!

  9. I did see that movie. Cruel:-( and for once I thought the Bachchan Bahu had done delved deep into the skin of her character. Not sure why the film got viped out even before its release.
